USL Championship - Week 1

08 March 2019

USL Championship Week 1

Ahead of the new USL Championship season, Pass4Soccer have started a new feature, which will keep track of how their clients are performing in the 2019 season and beyond.

The USLC is one step below Major League Soccer and P4S have eight players, who are with teams in this league.

Midfielder Daniel Bruce was the latest player to be snapped up as New Mexico United - an expansion club for 2019 - announced the signing of the UNC Charlotte graduate last month.

Each of the eight players gained scholarships through P4S, went on to have successful university careers - as well as graduating with a degree - and are now playing professionally in the United States.

USL Championship - Week 1

Saint Louis vs Indy Eleven - March 9 (7:00pm)

Two of our players are in contention to play in the fixture at the Toyota Stadium. Macauley King is with the visiting Indy Eleven side, while Lewis Hilton will be playing for Saint Louis.

Both teams reached the playoffs last season. Saint Louis were in the Western Conference and finished in the eight, while Indy were seventh in the Eastern Conference.

Hilton's side lost 4-0 away to Orange County SC in the Quarter-finals and Indy were also beaten at that stage, losing 4-1 away to Louisville City.

Reno 1868 FC vs Orange County FC - March 9 (10:00pm)

Midfielder Will Seymore has featured in pre-season for Reno 1868 and could be in line to make an appearance in their opening USLC match.

Reno finished fifth in the Western Conference last season, while their Week 1 opponents, Orange County, finished top of the league.

An injury-time goal saw Reno past Real Monarchs in the Quarter-Final, but they lost 1-0 to Orange County in the semi-finals.

San Antonio FC vs Phoenix Rising - March 10 (1:30am)

Two P4S clients could feature in this match as Johnny Fenwick and Leeroy Maguraushe both signed with San Antonio at the start of the year.

SAFC narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs in 2018, they finished ninth in the Western Conference, three points off Saint Louis.

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, in his final season before retiring, led Phoenix Rising to the Western Conference championship last season. Newcastle United legend Peter Ramage is on the coaching staff at Phoenix.

El Paso Locomotive vs OKC Energy FC - March 10 (2:30am)

Defender Andrew Fox left Grimsby Town in January and was soon snatched up in the United States as El Paso Locomotive revealed him as one of their new signings, at the start of February.

Locomotive are an expansion club and their first ever game in the USL Championship is against Oklahoma City Energy FC - Fox could make his debut in this game.

OKC finished 10th in the Western Conference last season, while Fox and El Paso will be looking to have a strong first season in the USLC.

New Mexico United vs Fresno FC - March 10 (2:30am)

Isotopes Park will play host to the season-opener between New Mexico United and Fresno FC in the early hours of Sunday morning.

United are another one of the expansion clubs for the 2019 campaign and midfielder Bruce could feature after recently signing for them.

Fresno finished in the bottom half of the Western Conference last season. New Mexico will play their first game in USLC in the early hours of Sunday morning (UK time).

Birmingham Legion vs Bethlehem Steel FC - March 10 (10:00pm)

Midfielder Joe Holland was selected in the First Round of the 2017 MLS Draft by Houston Dynamo and signed for Birmingham Legion ahead of the 2019 season.

The Legion are one of seven expansion clubs and their first game is at home against Bethlehem Steel at BBVA Compass Field.

Steel finished sixth in the Eastern Conference last season. After an 8-7 victory on penalties against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, they were knocked out of the playoffs in the Semi-Finals by eventual champions, Louisville City.

Kick-off times are based on UK time and all games and highlights will be available to watch on the USLC's official YouTube channel. Click here to go to their channel.
