USL Weekly Preview - July 12-14
There's a bit of an international twist to our preview this week as one client could feature for Reno 1868 FC against Club América U20.
Will Seymore's Reno side will turn their attention away from the USL Championship, for one week only, as they play host to the famous Mexican side.
Elsewhere, four clients could appear in the USLC, while midfielder Charlie Dennis will be looking to continue his run of games as South Georgia Tormenta take on Toronto FC II.
Each of the four players, who could feature this weekend, gained scholarships through P4S, went on to have successful university careers - as well as graduating with a degree - and are now playing professionally in the United States.
USL Championship - Week 19
Hartford Athletic vs Indy Eleven - July 13 (10:00am)
Macauley King came on as a substitute for Indy Eleven in their last match as they drew 1-1 at home to Louisville City two weeks ago.
The midfielder played 18 minutes and Indy now sit second in the Eastern Conference, just five points off the conference-leaders.
Indy's unbeaten run was stretched to 10 games after the draw with Louisville, while their opponents this week, Hartford Athletic, have lost three of their last four.
Hartford sit bottom of the conference and have won just two games in 2019. Their last match ended in a 4-1 defeat away to Memphis 901 last weekend.
Both Indy and Hartford faced back in Week 4, where the former won 1-0 after an own-goal was scored in the first-half.
Charlotte Independence vs Saint Louis FC - July 14 (12:00am)
Lewis Hilton will be travelling back to his former side at the weekend and the midfielder played two full games this past week.
The playmaker played 90 minutes against reigning MLS champions Atlanta United during the week as Saint Louis were knocked out of the US Open Cup after a 2-0 defeat in the Quarter-Finals.
STLFC produced a second-half comeback last weekend to rescue a 2-2 draw at home to Loudoun United.
Just one place and one point separates Saint Louis and Charlotte Independence in the Eastern Conference.
Saint Louis haven't won a game in their last seven league matches, while Charlotte are unbeaten in six games and they beat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 1-0 on Monday evening.
The two sides faced off back in Week 4, where Saint Louis edged out 1-0 winners at Toyota Stadium.
Birmingham Legion FC vs North Carolina FC - July 14 (1:00am)
Joe Holland came on as a substitute late in the game and played the final seven minutes for Birmingham Legion in their last match.
The Legion lost 4-1 away to Pittsburgh two weeks ago and are now 11 games without a win, which has saw them slump down to 16th (third-bottom) in the Eastern Conference.
Their opposition this weekend, North Carolina FC, sit fourth in the conference and are currently one of the form teams in the whole of the USLC.
North Carolina are unbeaten in their last eight games and drew 1-1 at home to Charlotte Independence in their previous match.
Back on May 19, Birmingham travelled to face North Carolina and came away with a point after the goalless draw at Sahlen's Stadium.
Fresno FC vs New Mexico United - July 14 (3:30am)
Daniel Bruce started both of New Mexico United's last two games, this past week, including the US Open Cup defeat to MLS side Minnesota United.
NMU lost 6-1 away to Minnesota and Bruce played the first-half of that game and also 63 minutes last weekend.
The league game away to Real Monarchs ended in a 1-0 defeat for United, who are now winless in their last five league matches.
Fresno are third in the Western Conference - New Mexico seventh - and have won their previous three games and are unbeaten in five.
They beat Sacramento Republic 1-0 in their last match and both Fresno and New Mexico faced on the opening day of the 2019 season, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Isotopes Park.
USL League One - Week 16
Toronto FC II vs South Georgia Tormenta FC - July 12 (9:00pm)
Dennis will be looking forward to this one as he was the hero of the hour, back in Week 7, when the sides last faced each other.
The midfielder scored a brace, including the stoppage-time winner, as South Georgia Tormenta won 3-2 at home.
Meanwhile, Tormenta's seven-game unbeaten streak came to an end last weekend as they lost 2-1 at home to Forward Madison - Dennis played the full 90 minutes.
Tormenta are second in USL League One, five points off the league-leaders with a game in hand, while Toronto FC II, who lost 3-1 away to FC Tucson last weekend, are fifth and are winless in their last four games.
Reno 1868 FC vs Club América U20 - July 13 (3:30am)
Reno will be taking a break from USL Championship action this weekend as they play host to Mexican side, Club América U20.
The game, at Greater Nevada Field, will be the second time, in as many years, that Reno have played a team from Mexico in an international friendly.
Last season, they welcomed Monarcas Morelia, also of Liga MX, and lost 4-2, so will be hoping for a better result this time around.
Los Azules have won three consecutive games going into the match with Club América U20, their last match ended in a 4-0 victory over Rio Grande Valley.
