Daniel Bruce “Honoured” to Make Pro Debut in New Mexico

10th May 2019

Daniel Bruce said it was an “honour” to make his professional debut for New Mexico United in front of over 15,000 fans last weekend.

New Mexico are an expansion club for the 2019 season. Despite the club being just over a month into their inaugural season in the USL Championship, they currently sit top of the Western Conference.

Bruce came on to make his debut for the team in the second-half. He was welcomed onto the field in front of a sold-out Isotopes Park and spoke to PASS4Soccer about that moment.

“It was an honour to play in front of so many amazing fans last weekend,” Bruce said. “Just over 15,000 supporters filled the home stadium and to come on with just under 20 minutes to go was a dream come true.”

He continued: “There’s many seasoned veterans in this squad, and they set the example of controlling nerves and emotions so well with such an important game to send us top of the league.

“So before playing, I was obviously nervous, but knew I had a job to do. After the game, it was a real weight off my shoulders to get my first professional minutes. It was amazing to enjoy it with the fans.”

From UNC Charlotte to New Mexico

The UNC Charlotte graduate was signed by New Mexico, who have only lost once in 10 games so far this season.

Bruce had a successful time with the 49ers. He played 63 games, scoring 18 goals and creating 12 assists between 2015 and 2018.

This led to the midfielder signing pro with United. Bruce claimed that their aim is to just get the three points in the next fixture.

The midfielder said: “(Our aim is) to win the next game that is in front of us. Obviously, we have big aims to win silverware and titles, but that doesn’t happen overnight.

“Just focussing on the next game is what is important to us here and reaching the wonderful people and community of New Mexico.”

United are back in action this weekend as they travel to El Paso Locomotive FC. Bruce could feature in that match, which kicks-off at 1:00am UK time. It will be available to watch on the USL Championship YouTube channel.
