Kirkham “Raring to Go” Ahead of Paddle Challenge

10th June 2019

PASS4Soccer client James Kirkham is just days away from one of his biggest challenges. An 80-mile paddle across the Gulf Stream.

The former Loughborough University student will set off from Bimini, in the Bahamas, to Lake Worth in Florida. The paddle, from all participants, is to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis.

Kirkham, who won the NCAA DII National Championship with Barry University in 2018, has completed his training and said he is “raring to go”.

“Right now, I’m extremely excited, but also really nervous,” Kirkham said. “No matter what it is that you do, if you do it for 15 hours, it’s going to be a challenge, especially when it’s something you’re not too familiar with.

“I signed up with no real prior paddling experience, so I’m just happy I can stand up. In all seriousness, I’m relatively pleased with how my training has gone.”

Kirkham admitted that he hasn’t spent as much time as he wanted to on the paddle board, but is ready to go.

He added: “My schedule has been so busy with school, work and football that I’ve not been able to get out on the board as much as I’d have liked.

“I’ve managed to get some decent miles under my belt, so I’m raring to get going. The last-minute shopping is going down at the minute. I’m stocking up on the sun cream and energy bars and then I’m good to go.”

It’s not too late to donate to the Piper’s Angels Foundation. under James’ name.
